 | Simp needs a way to interact with the messaging client. This can be done in two ways:
- DIRECT mode. In direct mode, Simp emulates an Instant Messaging server running on your local machine and then relays the connection to the real IM server.
- SOCKS4 mode. In SOCKS4 mode, Simp emulates a SOCKS4 proxy running on your local machine, similar to the Internet gateway you would find in corporate environments.
Depending on your IM clients capabilities, you may want to choose one of those two ways to interconnect Simp and your IM client.
Most clients support SOCKS4 proxying, which is the recommended mode. Find the "Proxy" or "Connection" settings in your IM client and fill in the appropriate settings. Comprehensive instructions are given by Simp's Configuration Wizard.
However, other IM clients suchs as Miranda can not be configured to go through SOCKS4 proxies. In that case, it may be possible to instruct them to connect to the IM server emulated by Simp's DIRECT mode capabilities. |
