 | To know whether a conversation is encrypted or not, you have several options:
- look at the "Active Connections" window in the Simp user interface and see if the conversation is listed under either Authenticated/Encrypted or Encrypted
- look at the "balloons" that appear when a conversation starts; a green balloon indicates the conversation is Authenticted/Encrypted, a blue one it is Encrypted and a red one it is not encrypted at all
- use Change message colors as configured in File | Configure... | Interface
- for MSN Messenger only, use Show cryptographic state before name, as configured in File | Configure... | Interface.
If you want to check by yourself that messages are really encrypted, you can use a packet sniffer (network interceptor) such as Ethereal ( http://www.ethereal.com/ ) to display the raw encrypted content sent to the IM servers. |
